Headingley Development Trust: HEART reaches a milestone!
Headingley Development Trust has reached the £100,000 target we set ourselves to
raise money from the community. In May, we launched the second part of the
community share issue, inviting local people and businesses to invest in the
HEART centre, the old Headingley Primary School on Bennett Road.
We had been given until the end of June by Leeds City Council to demonstrate
‘substantial progress’ in raising the £1.1 million needed to refurbish the
school as a community and enterprise centre. The community share issue was just
one part of the package of funding that the Directors of HDT have been chasing,
and after two disappointments with Lottery bids, we are delighted that the
community has been so supportive of the project.
The share issue will be boosted by a further £50,000 grant from the Adventure
Capital Fund, which they promised if we managed to raise the second £50,000 from
shares. This will reduce the amount that HEART will need to borrow to complete
the finance package.
We still need your investment, though, as we need to try and finalise the
refurbishment arrangements by September, when we hope that the Council Executive
will honour their in principle agreement for us to take over the old Headingley
Primary School as an art, enterprise and community centre for Headingley. If you
have been intending to invest, but haven’t yet got around to it, it is not too
late!
